A Call for Revival - November 2009 The last year has been, to say the least, a challenging time. All of us have been confronted with changes, both big and small, in multiple areas of life. And even though things are tough for so many, I remain confident that God is in control and that if we are willing, He will pour out His blessing on us in significant new ways.
With all the things happening in our world, our economy and our neighborhoods, it has caused me to reevaluate my own heart. It’s important to make sure that everything I am, and everything I do, fits into the will of God for my life. Are my priorities straight? Is God’s wisdom guiding me, rather than just my own? Are my motives and actions infused with the Spirit of God? Does my life reflect the God who loves the entire world?
If I’m honest with myself, I’ll have to admit that there are so many times that I fall short of God’s plan. I often depend on myself rather than Him. People don’t always see Him in me, as they should. But He reminds me that even though I’m a sinner, I’m a sinner who’s saved by grace!
I believe that, especially in these challenging days, God is looking for all of us to be serious about our calling and our mission. Time is short; Jesus will soon be here! He is looking for His people…His holy people…His chosen people, to BE His people. And that means that we must be totally connected to Him, totally filled by His Spirit.
I’m calling on you to join me in making the month of November a month of revival — a month dedicated to prayer in seeking the face of God, the will of God and the blessing of God, especially as we face the New Year. You know very well the passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, looking to me for help, I will hear from heaven and will forgive them and heal their land” (The Clear Word). I’m convinced that God has big things in store for us in 2010 as we work together with Him and with each other!
Let me suggest that the focus of our prayers during November be directed on something specific for each week of the month:
Week 1 — Prayer for personal and corporate humility, repentance and revival
Week 2 — Prayer for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on us all
Week 3 — Prayer for God’s abundant blessing on our churches and schools
Week 4 — Prayer for God’s leading and blessing of our conference: evangelistically, spiritually and financially
And, since November is the month of Thanksgiving, let’s remember the Biblical admonition –
“Continue earnestly in prayer and stay spiritually alert, always being grateful for what the Lord has done for you” (Colossians 4:2, The Clear Word).
Will you join me in this month of prayer, revival and rededication? And may this just be the start of an ongoing process of us intentionally seeking God and relying on Him more. Only as we humbly seek the face of God and ask for His blessing will we as individuals and as a conference become all He wants us to be.
