Fundraisers (before the group left) – On the wall of the Carmichael church lobby, members keep track of their fundraising by building a church out of paper blocks; each block represents $100. “Sabbath after Sabbath—I’m just blown away by the fundraising efforts,” said Case.

The church offered to give people $100 each to start their own fundraising projects for Mozambique. They were disappointed when only six people took the money, but then they discovered that people were using their own money to fund projects to raise money for the trip.

•    People are selling homemade cookies, granola and bread.

•    Customized picnic lunches are available for sale.

•    Some are donating a certain portion of their recycling proceeds.

•    Children raised over $1000 with a bike-a-thon. Their attitude is: “even though we’re not going, we’re part of missions,” said Case.

•    People who do construction work for a living are working on extra construction projects on Sundays in order to donate their earnings.

•    A woman acquired many inexpensive calling cards; now she gives a three dollar donation every time she sells a calling card.

•    A fourteen-year-old boy donated the $150 he had saved to buy something for himself. One Friday night he told his father, “Dad, I think I should give this money for missions.” His father said, “Are you sure? Sleep on it tonight. It’s your money; you should decide what to do with it.” The next morning, the young man gave it to the project.

“If the Apostle Paul came to our church right now, he wouldn’t say that the church is like the body. He’d say the church is like the plans for going to Mozambique: there are many parts working together in many ways,” said Case.
